◆「平泉文化研究センター」には、教育学部（歴史学・中国学分野）、人文社会科学部（中国学分野）、理工学部（理化学的機器分析分野）及び農学部（土壌分 析・形態分析分野）の研究者が参画し、平泉研究を多面的かつ分野横断的に行うことで、特色ある事業として主体的に推進していきます。
◆また、実際に平泉の遺跡を発掘している岩手県教育委員会及び民俗学的・宗教史的観点からの平泉研究を行う研究者を擁するいわて高等教育コンソーシアムと連携し、各組織が有している特長や人材を生かし、平泉伝統文化の研究をさらに進展させて行きます。
◆海外研究機関としては、西北大学文化遺産学院（漢・唐の長安城を発掘）、寧波考古研究所（海上シルクロードの世界遺産の申請を担当）、東北師範大学（高句麗・渤海の研究センター）、山東大学歴史文化学院及び孔子研究院など、すでに連携実績がある各機関と共同で研究を実施し、国内外から平泉文化の国際的意義について学際的に検討します。
■System for Implementation
◆ Researchers from the Faculties of Education (in the fields of history and Chinese studies), Humanities and Cultural Studies (Chinese studies), Science and Engineering (scientific instrumental analysis) and Agriculture (soil analysis and morphological analysis) are expected to participate in multifaceted, interdisciplinary projects for the Centre for Hiraizumi Studies. The Centre autonomously promotes such research, which is the distinguishing characteristic of Hiraizumi studies.
◆In addition, the Centre cooperates with the Iwate Board of Education, which is actually carrying out excavations of ruins, and the Iwate Higher Education Consortium, which supports researchers involved in scholarly studies of folklore and religious history, in order to further advance research on traditional Hiraizumi culture through making the best use of the strengths and human resources of each organization.
◆Overseas research organizations such as the School of Cultural Heritage at Northwest University (excavations of Chinese Tang Chang’an Castle), Ningbo Archeology Research Center (in charge of marine Silk Road world heritage applications), Northeast Normal University (Ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo and Bohai Research Center), School of History and Culture at Shandong University, and the Confucius Research Institute are presently engaged in collaborative research with the Centre, which investigates the international scholarly import of Hiraizumi culture both within and outside of Japan.
