岩手大学平泉文化研究センター

岩手大学平泉文化研究センターは、平成24年4月1日に設立されました。その目的は「仏国土（浄土）の理想郷として造営されたという平泉庭園文化を中心に、平泉文化の意義を総合的に解明すること」にあります。
設立の構想は、平成17年度より採択された「東アジアの海域交流と日本伝統文化の形成」という学際的研究の一環とし て、岩手県教育委員会と共催で「平泉文化フォーラム」などを実施したことにはじまります。その後、「平泉文化の国際性と地域性」をテーマに中国古代苑池庭 園との比較研 究として継続され、さらに本年度からは「世界遺産・平泉文化の総合的研究の拠点形成」事業として拡充が図られることになりました。
これまでにも平泉に関する研究には多くの蓄積がありますが､研究成果がそのまま平泉の国際的評価に結びついてきたわけ でもありません。そこで、農・理工学部などの理系分野も合わせたオール 岩手大学の本センターを中核にして、平泉に関する研究者及び関係機関、さらに海外の諸大学等と連携を図り、これまでの研究成果を踏まえながら、平泉文化を 学際的・国際的な観点から研究し、もって平泉文化の国際的意義を明らかにして、「平泉学」としての総合化を目指すものです。
併せて、このような研究成果は、研究会やシンポジウムの開催、研究紀要の刊行等を通じて社会に還元し、広く地域振興に寄与することも目的としています。
■About the Centre for Hiraizumi Studies
The lwate University Centre for Hiraizumi Studies was established on April 1, 2012. The goal is to share the significance of the culture from the Hiraizumi area which was built to be a utopia for the Jodo sect of Buddhism.
The plan to establish the centre started when lwate University and the lwate Board of Education held the “Hiraizumi Culture Forum” as part of the “East Asian Regional Exchange and the Formation of Traditional Japanese Culture” research project which began in 2005. After that, taking the theme of “International and Regional Aspects of Hiraizumi Culture,” a comparative study between Hiraizumi and ancient Chinese Buddhist gardens was conducted. Moreover, from this year, the project titled “the Formation of a Base for Integrative Research on World Heritage Hiraizumi Culture” will further promote research on Hiraizumi.
Until now, there has been an accumulation of research on Hiraizumi but these achievements have not necessarily led to Hiraizumi being recognized on an international level. The centre，which is comprised of an “all lwate University” team including all faculties of the university， aims to develop “Hiraizumi Studies” serving as the centre of a network of Hiraizumi researchers, institutions, and universities throughout the world to reveal the international significance of Hiraizumi culture.
Through conferences, symposiums, and publications, the centre aims to spread the results of its research on Hiraizumi and significantly contribute to the promotion of the local region.
